Jakarta Government Commits to Enhancing Education Quality for the City’s Children

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has reaffirmed the Jakarta government's commitment to improving educational access and quality for all residents. This statement was made during the National Education Day (Hardiknas) 2026 commemoration at Jakarta City Hall on Monday (5/4).

Rp 2,286,000,000 has been allocated to assist 49 schools

The Jakarta government is focusing its education policies on three main priorities: the diploma retrieval program, the overseas deployment of vocational school (SMK) alumni, and the distribution of disaster relief aid for North Sumatra, Aceh, and West Sumatra.

Regarding the first phase of the diploma retrieval program, the Jakarta government will distribute diplomas to 2,026 students across various levels, including elementary, middle, and high schools, vocational schools (SMK), and Community Learning Centers (PKBM). This is conducted in collaboration with Baznas Bazis Jakarta, with a total budget by Rp 3.9 billion.

"We will continue to organize programs to send and dispatch our SMK alumni to work abroad," he stated, at Jakarta City Hall, Monday (5/4).

He noted that 561 SMK alumni would be deployed to several countries, specifically Japan, Malaysia, and Germany, as an effort to bolster their global competitiveness.

Another priority program is the "Disdik Peduli" (Education Agency Cares) movement, coordinated by Jakarta Education Agency and Indonesian Teachers Association (PGRI) Jakarta. Pramono announced that the Jakarta government has channeled Rp 2.2 billion in donations for disaster relief in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra.

"Rp 2,286,000,000 has been allocated to assist 49 schools in Aceh, 15 schools in North Sumatra, and 46 schools in West Sumatra," Pramono added.

Further, the Jakarta government has disbursed the first phase of the 2026 Jakarta Student Superiority Card (KJMU) to 15,825 students, with a total value by Rp 142 billion. The KJMU program represents the government's commitment to expanding access to higher education for underprivileged communities.

This is part of our commitment to expanding access to higher education, while adjusting the number of recipients due to factors such as graduation, academic leave, academic performance below standards, death, or those who have shifted to the KIP Kuliah scholarship," he explained.

Through these various policies, including the implementation of 103 free private schools, Pramono is confident that Jakarta can serve as a benchmark for education in other regions.

"With 103 private schools in Jakarta, alongside programs like KJP, KJMU, diploma retrieval, and school infrastructure improvements remaining our top priorities, I am certain Jakarta can become a role model for education in Indonesia," he concluded.
